Well, got home from work yesterday and came across a pair of these little rippers in the driveway. I noticed them a couple of weeks back but they are very nervous and won't let me get within 30 metres, but this time I was in the car, quickly stopped, left the engine running as he was obviously not concerned with it as he sat in the apple tree. Opened the door and leant between the door and the body and snapped a few off before he flew away. Not the best focus, but struth my blood was pumping. Cropped about 50%. They only come down south to breed and hang around until autumn then fly back into the dryer mallee regions during winter.

Lucky find, you did well. I wish they'd come to my Apple Tree.

What a gorgeous little bird! You did great Trace. Are they bug eater or seed eater? If latter, perhaps they would visit your feeder soon.:)

Hi Trace,

great capture, we don't get the Diamond Firetail here but we do get red-browed firetails by the 1000's I know how quick they are so you have done wonders.
