Ok, time for an update, sorry I didn't get anything sooner, the organiser is not being very forth coming.

So far I know there will be a bouncy castle, NZ idol will be playing, and several TV celebs will be hanging out with the kids.
The walk itself, will start at midday, and go untill 2.
Numbers are only in the order of 5-600 people, thats kids and adults.

While it will still be a big event, its dosn't sound like its going to be huge one I was led to believe it will be. I wouldn't expect more than 3-4 hours of shooting time will be required.
If anyone wants to pull out, I fully understand.
I should know more details, including a complete and proper timetable hopefully by Wednesday.

On a more positive note, the organisers have added a release into the events sign up form, and we will be getting I.D. passes that give us full access.

I'm not is this because it was a big event, I'm in to help out, so I'm still in :D

Thanks for the update, Moppie. I am still in, although it seems that I can drive up in the morning rather than staying over Saturday night.

It may be possible to get a series of images that show the intrinsic value of Down-affected lives - the joy of being alive. Plus whatever else is needed by the organisers.

The IDs (the badge not the camera!) will be great. I carry a plain fluoro vest (no reflectortape) in the car which I often use. I want to add a matching velcro'd banner saying "PHOTO" that could be attached to the back, or if the backpack is on, on the left breast panel. Rather like the Press jackets that many photogs wear. Perhaps one for each, the front one smaller and sewn on. Perhaps a safety clothing outlet has contacts for this.

There is actualy an importer of vests next door from work. We use them for all our work vests, cost about $12 each.
NZ safety etc, also sell them, but they cost about $30-40 each. For the same vest :)

The organisers have hinted they may be getting us something for Sunday, I will wait and see what it is, if they can't get anything then I may pop next door and see what they have in stock.

It is going to be a very unique opertunity to photograph some very unique people, and maybe help them in someway.

Sounds good Moppie, I'm still in. Although with NZ Idol playing we may need the NZ safety earplugs rather than the vests... :-)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

There is a Tui Billboard at the top of Newton Road and Symonds Street, this morning it has "NZ Idol" on it, you know the rest ;)

I always carry earplugs for such eventualities

OK - so it's not in Wise's Auckland 2000-01 under parks and reserves. There is a Tahaki Rd in Glen Innes. It's not in TUMONZ 2004/5.

How do I find Tahaki Reserve, Mt Eden?

250 Mt Eden Road, Mt Eden, Auckland City , I think it is the one at the base of Mt Eden city side.

You beat me to it!
Its deffinitly north of Green Lane East, but I would come down Mt Eden road from the City, the park at the base of Mt Eden sounds about right.

Family is not coming along for the ride on this one, so car pooling would be good, if anything for the parking issue!

That would be fine, oddly enough my Sundays now do not include sleeping until 10am like they used to...

Pete counted 47 seasons in one day. I thought there were two - barely tolerable, and bloody awful. Moppie's new 30D has now been baptisted, along with everyone else's gear.

I am horrified at my shots, and mystified. They are worse than the weather was. Much time will be spent in analysing what went wrong. Even my shots of the 3 NZ Idol finalists taken from alongside are lousy. Anyone want to buy some camera gear?

It is unlikely that I will post any shots, but I hope the others do.
