Moppie, Pete, Duncan, and Clive -- how did today's event go?

Awesome. Still sifting thru photo's but promise to post some once I'm done.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Despite the weather it was a good experience, I have never taken a photo of someone and got hugged as a thankyou before! Gear got wet and I got sunburnt too, go figure!

Haven't reviewed the shots yet, got home and spent some time with the family :)

Great meeting Clive, not good to hear the shots didn't turn out that well, what is wrong with them?

Pending the outcome of my photos, I should be happy to help with that event again :D

EDIT: Looks like I got some good shots, plenty to make me smile :) Nice to feel like we have given something back to the community with our skills and resources :)

Clive: Sorry to hear that the shots didn't go too well --must be the horrible Auckland weather that you aren't used to...

Duncan/Pete/Moppie: looking forward to your posts. If I wasn't at work or crook I would have loved to come along. My nephew has DS and I can feel for the participants -- it is both trying and rewarding. The "kids" will remain forever kids -- it is the refreshing side of the syndrome. No matter how difficult things get, they manage to put on a smile both for you and themselves.

It was a really good day, great to meet you Clive, Im sure your shots will have turned out better than you thought on first review :)

It was quite amazing getting into interact with the Downs kids, so full of life, and such a variety. Some were very intelligent, while others were clearly undeveloped in some areas, usualy awarness levels.

I havn't looked at all the photos yet, but I have over 1,200. I don't know how I shot that many, having a new camera would have been part of it, but I never even used the 5 fps, it was all single shots.
The 30D deffinitly got baptised, after the rain it was more than metaphoricaly. It preformed perfectly to, I was no longed limited by my gear, even the two lenses performed perfectly, focusing fast and being very easy to use. The Sigma 17-70 really is something special.

Ill try and get some photos up during the week :)

 Better ERR99 rather than having your camera blow up because of the hot air and all the blustering that these MPs do:lol:

I knew that I shouldn't post as soon as I returned from Auckland. It had been a hectic Saturday ending in the 2.5hr drive to New Lynn in the evening. So I arrived at the Buddy Walk already weary - not good at my age.

I did enjoy the event, and although the weather was not kind, it was not bad and of little consequence to photog's. The people were great - I especially admired some of the Auckland University of Technology students who gave of themselves endlessly on the day.

Hi, Moppie - many thanks for the opportunity to share in the photo shoot. I enjoyed it greatly, despite tiring somewhat towards the end.

Yes, there are some shots that may be of value to be rescued. I forgot two things in the afternoon, when I added the flash setup. Firstly, I usually attach a Lumiquest 80/20 diffuser with an outdoors reflector and a diffuser front. I didn't this time because of the wind effect, and forgot to adjust my practices down a couple of stops - resulting in blown images. Including my on-stage shots of the 3 Idols finalists. Damn.

The other failure was to set the flash to High-speed, which is usually needed in open situations with wide apertures to defocus background rubbish.

I have a 52 ... Pde in upper heights for you - can I send a disk there?

I was more concerned he might have found it in google or something :)

I do have a list culled from a year of lurking, in the hope that I may be in Auckland and able to join in activities. (My recall is so bad, I make lists of many things.) Several contact details have in the past been listed here and then deleted, and I have captured at least the suburb. And then there was another list made available to me, which was merged.
