My New Canon 24-105 F/4 L IS

Looks good to me! At what speed can you hand hold it with the ISO at 100?

I'm not sure yet, but i image its should be at least the same as it was kinda dark in the bird enclosure. i didnt have alot of time today and I cant wait to put this beauty thru the paces! When I do I'll post the results.

The same speed as if it was set at ISO200/400/800 - I can't see why the ISO would make a difference, it will just allow you to expose correctly in lower or brighter light.

I've used mine down to about 1/15th sec with good results, but at a wider angle setting, although if I was to have a 16" x 20" printed i'm sure you would notice it not so sharp

Ahh good point, but what i mean is if you have it on 100 and have to make the exposure longer, what i was wondering is pretty much what you said, like what speed does IS help you hold it to

It's a great lens, you'll love it. Handholding I have been down to 1/15, it was acceptable and a 10x8 print would be no problem.

Watch that IS switch when its on a tripod, I definately find tripod pics with IS on are soft.

Thank you Kevin, AO1 I'll try it on some stationary subjects and see how slow it can go and still have a crisp shot.(this bird didnt sit still) As a matter of fact it flew on my should and tried to chew on my camera strap! It actually bit my finger when i tried to stop him. lol

I Do know that i could not get an in-focus shot with my 70-200 F4 at the same 105 mm even at 800iso!

Ahhh... I did wonder what you meant - Yes around 1/15th sec, but this will depend on how steady you can hold the camera and the zoom setting selected.
At 24mm you may get away with slightly slower, but at 105mm the magnification of the image will introduce 'the shakes' much easier and you may need something faster.

It also depends on what size you are going to view the image, whether on screen or in print.

I try to use at least 1/60th with IS on, I've had excellent results at that setting at all focal lengths.

Just so that all you non Aussies out there are not mislead, the bird is actually a Scaley Breasted Lorrikeet not a Rainbow Lory - different chest feather pattern.

Why are you using IS on a tripod? Only certain models have horizontal IS, and I'm sure this isn't one of them (I tested this lens out yesterday in a store)

The colours are wonderful, and I'm a recent fan of IS since getting the 70-300 IS. This is one lens I'd like to own someday... That is a long way off though!! I would like to see two mode IS on this lens. Need to see some 100% crops to be sure of the sharpness.

sorry about that it's a 24-105 F4 IS and these were shot hand held. there is only one IS mode (off & on)

Yes, but I believe that the IS automatically detects when it has to go into panning mode.
