I'm sure this lens doesn't have IS support for panning. Can anyone else clarify?

While a little more light (sunnier day or fill flash) would have brought out the sharpness better, I would send the images to PS for saving so that you can control the loss of sharpness by using the unsharp mask tool. (when editing for the web) I bet your 100% crop is much sharper. Congrats on the lens!
