Excellent capture Dale. It's an Ibis alright but don't know exactly which specie. Out of curiousity on those leg bands, is this bird captive or just tagged for tracking? Thanks for sharing.

It's a captive bird at Healesville Sanctuary, east of Melbourne.

Heheh you're being a great help this evening Trace. Thanks. I suspected it might have been a Glossy Ibis, but wasn't game to name it as such.

No probs Dale. Have loved Aussie birds for as long as can remember. A couple of good reference books are Australian Birds, Donald and Molly Trouson, and Field Guide to the Birds of Australia, Simpson and Day. The fomer however is large format with colour photos (which is great) and the latter is small and handy for field trips but art work and sometimes not true to colour, but still very handy.

Thanks for the book references Trace. I'll have to hunt them out.

Bea: That was pretty much my reaction when I saw him. ;)

Beautiful shot. We have glossies in Florida, too.

dale65bama: Would be great to see a group of wild glossies. This captive one is the first time I had seen one. Mostly in the wild I see the regular white ones with black on their tail feathers.
