I am thinking about selling a couple of lenses (UK) and just after an idea of value. They are both under a year old

17-85 IS f/4-5.6

hell, I'd sell them on ebay, most used canon gear is going for atleast 90% of retail, many go well over!! it's really a sellers market right now.

Ive got about 75-95% of new prices for the few I've sold on ebay (Canon and Nikon stuff), they were in near-new/mint cond though.
You can stick a realistic reserve on to make sure you don't get caught out, but in my experience there are loads of buyers, especially if they are mint/near new condition.

Not to start an argument here, but do you think eBay's listing of cameras actually tells you anything?

I've checked a lot in the past and became convinced that the unscruplous "undersellers" that sell from alleyway camera marts just flood the listings with duplicate listings of the same items to that users won't ever get to the items that are being sold by legitimate users.

I know what you are saying, but I still managed to sell mine for a good price. about 3 x what the local shop offered me.
