I am going to Seattle and Portland next week for work and would like to spend some time shooting photos. I will have about two days in each city. In Seattle I am staying near Queen Anne st. so I am sure I will be checking out the famous Kerry Park. Is there much else close (walking distance) or should I hop on a bus/shuttle somewhere? I think Pike's Fish Market is about 1 mile away so I think Ill walk there as well...

I like to shoot Landscapes and City stuff for the most part, but a little bit of everything. Not into Wildlife or Macro much...

Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated... Thanks in Advance... ;)

Maybe take a ride on some of the Washington ferries and get some skyline and other shots from them.

In Portland go to Washington Park. It has a beautiful rose garden, a spectacular Japanese garden, an overlook that puts downtown Portland in the foreground with Mt. Hood behind it.... The Portland waterfront is great to wander for urban shots and bridges. If you have time you can travel about 30-40 minutes out of Portland up the Columbia River Gorge to Multnomah Falls, Oregon's #1 tourist draw.

In Seattle I like Pike Place Market and the waterfront. The ferries are an excellent idea. If you can find a nice vantage point from downtown you can take a picture that involves the water and the Olympic Mountains to the west -- think later afternoon to sunset, or early morning for nice light. Of course, that assumes it isn't cloudy in Seattle.

Weather's great right now. I live just outside Portland and today was in the mid-80's. Clouds show up on the forecast for Sunday. Timing is everything.

Greg

If you're looking into taking cityscape shots of Seattle I can recommend you go to Alki which is located in west seattle. If you want more info let me know. Here is one pic I took at alki.

I don't have an extremely long lens...(max 55mm right now) but with a longer lens it makes a great area for stiched panos. But, other than that pikes place is always good for some people shots. Good luck

I would second the Washington Park suggestion, very pretty area. And the statue of Wendy the Welder has just been put in Esther Short Park in Vancouver for a couple of days.... There are actually quite a few places in the city to shoot some decent scenery.

I was actually going to see what that was all about as the statue looked quite interesting in the paper.

Weather has been about perfect for the past couple days. I hope it holds for you next week.

Very cool, Hopefully I will be able to have enough time to get to most of these spots mentioned and Ample time to shoot them properly.

Thanks for the help! I can't wait to shoot some new scenery. Hopefully the weather will be good...

(Reminds himself he should get a new bag that will hold his tripod so he doesnt have to carry it while walking long distances)

Thanks again...:)

If you like urban/candid type shooting...hit up pike place market...or better yet, head for the seattle center area (just head for the space needle till you can touch it basically) and you're there lol.

Key Arena area and all that....DAMN I am really homesick now....

I also second Alki beach....great shooting there as well. Seattle is great no matter where you go, just head for water and you're golden
