So, the 1.2 50mm lens is going to be out any time soon and its going to be stupidly expensive... But, considering the quality of the f1.4 50mm... who actually needs an f1.2? And who needs one so bad they'll be willing to spend so much on it...

if the 1.2 had replaced the 1.4, I could understand releasing it, but as it stands... who actually has the need for one?!

If I see a review that blows me away, I'll have one. Otherwise, I'll stick with 1.4.

One of the REAL benefits over the 1.4 is that it is weather sealed. If you're mating it to a 1D I can see that being a critical factor and worth the premium if shooting in incliment weather.

But... WHY....! It surely cannot be so significantly better than the 1.4 (apart from weather sealing which is a fair comment).

Image wise, it will surely be very, very close between the 1.4 and 1.2?

As I am not weather sealed, inclement weather tends to keep me indoors stalking the pets and unwary family members. So i couldn't care less about that. I would be a lot more interested in the new 50 if I had a full frame camera though. At the moment, my heart is set on a 30mm from sigma.

DOF control? Yes, I can see that the extra control you get from the 1.4 would make it worth spending 1k on it ;) Included hood - worth the difference? The only reason would be the L glass elements (not that I could afford to even contemplate buying it!).

To get an idea, compare images from the most excellent 85mm f/1.8 and the Canon 85 f/1.2 L. There is a bigger difference in terms of light sucking ability, and reduced DOF, but there is a certain something that the L primes have.

goatee, I agree. But in DOF control, there is a big difference, depending on distance, btw 1.2 and 1.4.

There is something about L glass and output. If this lens has ANY characteristics of of the 85L, then it will be worth it to me.
