I am saving for it right now! Would love to have it by Christmas, but I doubt I will make it

But... WHY....! It surely cannot be so significantly better than the 1.4 (apart from weather sealing which is a fair comment).

Image wise, it will surely be very, very close between the 1.4 and 1.2?

Well, I sure hope not... The 50/1.4 is not stellar wide open, to say the least. It's usable, but only just.
I'm waiting untill I see a comparison between both on f/1.4 though...
AF is a bit slower then the 50/1.4, but not too slow I think (tried it at the Photokina on a differnet camera then my own).
Weather sealing is an absolute non issue to me.

If I see a review that blows me away, I'll have one. Otherwise, I'll stick with 1.4.

Ditto - I want to see its performance first. Distortion, CA, bokeh (which already looks good from what I've seen), sharpness at wide apertures, corner sharpness, color richness and contrast, focus speed. Lots of things to look at.

I am not buying this lens. If someone got me if for a gift. I would sell it to Ronald or Dante and buy something I would really use. I dont even use my 50 1.8 enough to justify keeping it never mind will I use a 50mm 1.2 L, even if I could buy one tomorrow.

I sold my 50 F/1.4 too, so that means I'll need to get a 50L

Hopefully an upgrader will give me a good deal on a 50mm 1.4, heh....

But if I ever have $1000+ to blow on a prime, this will be close to the top of the list :).

Well I just can't see the $1299 increase worth it (good I am still sane) just for waterproofing and f/1.2 vs f/1.4. My 50 f/1.4 is sharp wide open but with such little DOF I can't see f/1.2 being any more of a benifit. If my 50mm gets wet I can buy another one up to 5 times (20 for the f/1.8 version) for the same cost of the one 50 f/1.2
Just my 2 cents (2 cents ain't worth much) :)

Well, if the only difference is going from a max aperture of f/1.4 to f/1.2 without any other change in image quality, then perhaps it isn't worth the difference in price. But from my experience, the 50/1.4 isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer below f/2, and it suffers from a bit of barrel distortion. If the 1.2 improves on several aspects of performance over the 1.4, then it is worth it.

But as you said, if the differrence is merely the extra 1/3 or 1/2 stop of brightness, then it may not be a worthwhile expenditure - to me.

The 50 1.4 lacks in a lot of areas. Maybe I just had a bad copy but when I look at an image from the 50 on my computer compared to my other lenses they lack contrast and colors by a fairly large margin. In fact in PP with the 50 my setting are completely different than even the 24-70
