B + W 77mm UV Slim Mount...
Is it worth it to get the slim mount or stick with the standard?

Can you even put a lens cap on the slim mount?

Are these the same as the 'f-pro standard' I've heard about?

Many reports Canon 10-22 does not cause vigneting when a non-slim filter is used. So I would stick with the standard in order to be able to use the lens cap still.

I use Hoya Pro-1 slim filters because they have a front thread that allows you to stack (maybe), and you can use your lens cap.

B+W gives you a plastic lens cap, but it falls off easily, it is irreplaceable, and you still have to deal with the normal cap (in your pocket, bag, wherever).

Have Fun,

I didn't get a plastic cap with my 77mm B+W MRC UV filter...
Where did you get yours with a plastic lens cap?

Standard Canon lens cap won't work with slim...no vigneting with a 1.6 crop camera...I'd get slim if I had a 5d or 1ds...

Well it was a circular polarizer, not a UV - I thought they all came with a cap.

B&H lists it under "Item Includes" on this one:

I'ld say it depends on the type of lens cap. I just recieved a B+W 72mm CP MRC filter, and it allows the use of the hood on my 20-35L and 80-200L (fits on the outside of the lens body) just fine. I'ld assume the slim version would as well...
The hood on my 50/1.4 won't fit however with the filter and step-up ring attached

good question as I'm using the 5D!

- as I am just about to get B+Ws, I'd appreciate advice on these intended purchases:

58mm one CP +2 UVs *normal* for 50mm1.4+85mm1.8
72mm UV+ CP for 35mm1.4 (*slim* or normal?)
77mm for 17-40L UV+CP (*slims*?)

I don't mind if the CP filters don't work with the canon lens cap but don't want them if the UV's wont work with the lens cap

Id rather not stack -i.e. take the UV off before using the CP on the WAs if it meant not being able to use an UV that would take a lens cap

I'ld skip the UV filters, but that's me...
I'ld buy a 72mm filter and a step up ring 58-72mm. Way cheaper solution then getting two CP filters. I bought the same step up ring with my 72 mm B+W MRC CP. Now I can fit it to my 28/1.8, 50/1.4 and 100/2.0. Saved about 100 euro's...
You might even consider just buying the 77mm filter for your 17-40L and getting two step up rings.

thanks - IM ok wit gettign different sizes CP for each lens size - can't be doing with fiddly step-ups

but my question was really about the potential for vignetting and/or the viability of continuing to use the canon lens cap with the slim filters

The Canon lens cap will fit the Hoya Pro series slim type filters.

Thanks - however it was the B+W filters I was thinking of getting as the Hoyas ( I have several)are dreadful to clean , they just tend to smear instead

I use the Eclipse cleaner and lens tissue paper, haven't had a problem keeping mine clean and I'm the type to hold the filter at various angles to bright lamps looking for smears.

I ended up (accidentally) buying the slim fit B+W skylight filter that was optimized for wideangle lenses from Adorama. Can't say I've had any problems with vignetting.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but what is recommended as far as RGNDs and CPs go? I was thinking maybe a 3stop hard RGND and a CP. Is there a big difference between a GND and a RGND?

I was thinking of this - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …EG&addedTroughType=search (external link)

I would need the Cokin filter holder I suppose?
