Good shot! A very alert looking bird here. It looks nicely wedged between the trunk and the branch.

I shot one yesterday while geocaching in Rockville park... i wasn't nearly as close.. i shot this pic at 300mm... and i was probably a good 150 feet or so away... and by no means do i consider this a good pic.. i was all shakey from hiking about 6 miles, tired, breathing so hard cause i was climbing at the time... i wasn't going to post the pic til i saw this one... i didn't even know what kind of woodpecker it was.....

Nicely done! Not an uncommon bird, but one that is difficult to photograph.
