elinchrom d-lite2

ok not based in usa alien bees are out for me.
so was looking at the elinchron d-lite2 kit ....
2x 200w flsh heads(5f-stop digi control in 10ths)..
2x stands..
1x 65x65 softbox...
1x53x53 softbox
all leads and carry bags

£415+vat

anyone used them or reccomend them ..will they be ok for starting out with..or will i be wasting my money and be put off with studio lights
my main use will be family and friends...notn paid jobs?

Personally I think the D-Lites are a little low power for good work.

I would go for a "Studio to Go" pack with FX or BX400s in them.

You can get them from www.bhphoto.com, I even get them to Aus from them with reasonable shipping.

I have used these among others 6-7 days a week, and never had a problem.

Note: You won't be wasting your money on anything Elinchrom, but I would strongly suggest using larger softboxes or octaboxes if you can.

I have the D-Lite4 kit with 400WS heads and am absolutley happy with them. Only disadvantage I can think of is that being Digital.. you can't use them on an external powerpack for field use (Apparently)

D-lites are fine for amateur use. They dont have fan cooling unlike the budget Alien Bees. The specification info on the site warns that certain modifiers (snoots, minispots, reflectors with grids) may cause a heat build up. The FX's, BX's are fan cooled.
