Need Feedback on 75-300mm III 4.0-5.6 expected quality.

I got the lens on clearance at Walmart...it's a little bit loose all over...

I'd say there is 1/8" play on most rings, especially when fully extended. Is this typical of the less expensive lenses?

Please reply with your opinion.

Yea, the build quality is just what you expect from a clearance sale item at Walmart.

BassBiggieD,

I really should try it out in several environments...

It's the other lenses I own that I simply can't stop using...until today, when I expected some deer to pass by...

I got it out of the safe and got cold feet about it...

With the feed back that I get form you guys here at P.O.T.N.
I'm getting confident that it will serve me OK till I get a Canon 100-400mm IS USM lens...(soon)

If I was a Pro, the Sigma 70-200mm APO EX DG F2.8 would be my lens of choice for theater venue, indoor photography...Since it's just a hobby I use the 50mm and 85mm...(venue restrictions limit me to a short lens.)

100-400mm has IS, but is f/4.5-5.6 and needs it...Strictly an outdoor lens though, it lists for approx. $1,400...it will complete my set for a while...

I'll also get a doubler (1.4 x extender) and some extension tubes...thats it...

Good Luck

The Sig 1.4 will still be within reasonable f stops...although there is no harm in owning both...The reach versatility justifies both...

I've always had tubes before... those are a definite right away...

yeah the problem is i need a lot of other stuff to, like a flash, monopod, and better close quarters lens (like a tamron 28-75 f2.8)

then comes the goodies and extras like extenders and tubes:(

You do make a very valid point...I still need a better tri pod and monopod for the big 100-400mm...

The f2.8 on the Tamron sounds pretty good.
For Me: I want a f1.4 wide angle lens too, but it cost's too much:
The wide angle lens would be great for Real Estate Pics of house interiors...

But than all RE salesmen have some sort of digital camera...plus they never have any money to spare for good quality digital photos... maybe the selling customer might be a better prospect...

There are a few wide angle lenses, one with 94 degree view, another has macro capabilities and several are between f1.4 and 2.8...It's the price that will determine what I get in this range, and when I get it...

I'm retired and now am on a budget...

This most recent gas price break makes enough of a difference to justify an additional lens this year...We here in PA are also getting a property tax reduction applicable soon (possibly this year already, or 2007) that difference again will allow buying more stuff...
