I can't say exactly. :)

Well, it's longer than 300 mm, and just as fast.

that narrows it down to.... 1 lens :)

Permagrin, I am. Very happy and kinda let down. Not let down in a bad way. Let me explain.

When I upgraded to the big daddy of all digital 35mm cameras i was moving from a 5D. I was no stranger to FF cameras. I soon grew to love 45 AFP, AI servo that worked great. 1200 shot battey life. Custom and Personal functions that total close to 45. Much more!WOW. Great camera. Moving back to the 5D is a shock in build quality. IQ is awesome. ISO and noise control top that of the 1dsmk2 IMHO. Wish the 5D was a pro body for customization and control and build. the 5D is still an awesome camera in its own right.

Now the 1dmk2N is all that I was counting on for a sports camera. AI servo that tacks like nothing I have ever seen. Sharp and responsive. Very much a little sibling to the 1dsmk2, but with a machine gun rate of fire and half the resolution. I love the pro bodies for the build and controls. the 1Dmk2N is super sweet. But it is not a FF camera. It will be great for my kids sporting stuff but for my portraiture jobs, I need FF.

It is a plus to have 2 bodies and I think this trade was great for me. Would have loved to keep the 1dsmk2, but have to keep the wife happy too!!

Interesting observations for a soon-to-be-1-series owner (me)

I'm reading a little about the Cfn and Pfn capabilities on the 1D and they really are quite impressive. The ability to switch between all 45 FPs and the 'home' FP (preconfigured) with one button and Cfn-18 is very impressive, already wishing my 5D had this.

5D AI Servo is very good in my book but I suspect I ain't seen nothing yet. It definitely blows away the 350D and 20D, the expanded six AF points (enabled by Cfn) enable much easier tracking. All you have to do is keep the subject in the spot meter circle and you are gold. Of course, I am waiting to see what 45 points can do.

The key advantage of the 5D is weight and field portability. Build quality is just a little better than its 20D/30D cousins, but the savings in weight are substantial. Think I will need another neckstrap for my 1D.

Do you miss the vertical grip? The 5D's BG-E4 will give you two batteries for close-to-1DsM2 battery capacity, I can fire at least 500 frames on one pack so 2 BP511s should give you something like that, plus the vertical controls.

Not apologizing for it, just that I come from the other direction. In the next couple of days I think my 1D is going to school me hardcore ;)

Just wait lightstream. One you go pro, you'll never want to go back!! I do have a vertical grip. Would not own a camera w/o one as portrait orientation is my preference. Battery life with grip is still below a 1 series, except for the 1d as it exhausts batteries like crazy.

I have that feeling, yes ;)

The only things I don't like about the 1-series are the weight and the cost.. particularly the cost, weight I will probably get used to

Waiting for my 1D.......CAN'T WAIT! HURRY UP AND DELIVER IT!!

Light, For me the weight is nice. It makes a steady platform and balances those L lenses quite well. Get one of those POTN straps. The optitech really absorb the weight of the camera. You will get used to it real quick.

As for cost, well, you get what you pay for in camera gear. You will see. Muhahahahahahah!

DANG IT!!!!!!!!!

Find a note in my mailbox, but get the feeling not all is right. Says "ordinary parcel". Still, thinking it is the 1D, I run down to the post office like a freaking madman and they hand me this letter-sized envelope.

No 1D for me today  bloody emotional roller coaster...

I have the Optech (non-POTN though, bought it many months before I would discover this money sucking vacuum ;) ), might be picking up another blue one to go with the 1D. It's been very nice in reducing the apparent weight, even if it is just a 350D. Yes, once upon a time, I was a lightweight.

I also use the Optech bag straps on two of my working bags, one of which has ten pounds of laptop and communications gear, and the other one is my modified Domke. Liked the Optech so much, I cut the supplied strap off and by some happy coincidences, the buckles on the side are the perfect size for the Optech.

So that's all it takes to trade up to a 1DsMII? Just an N and a lousy* 5D with grip? No problem!!
* in no way knocking the 5D

Good point! Anyone else want to swap their 1DsMark II for a 1D Mark II and a 5D?

Hmmmm......that sounds interesting - I could always sell the spare 85L after all.
