Blonde that is just the answer i was kinda looking for. So give me your opinion. If image quality if first and foremost for me no matter what i shoot, but i want to be able to shoot some sports as well and even then IQ is number one priority. Basically i want to shoot the whole gamut but IQ is the number 1 goal, sounds like i need either a 5d or a 1ds mark II. Ive seen 1DmarkII photos though and cant see how 5D could be better. How do you get better IQ than sports illustrated? What i need is to be able to go to a site and compare pictures taken with the 1DmarkII and the 5D. My heart wants the 8.5FPS but im afraid of what i might be missing in IQ. I really need to be able to compare them to make a sound decision. Is that possible on any websites that you know of?

btw, the guy that does all of these reviews is an amazing photographer that tested every single kit canon made so he really knows what he is talking about...

IIRC I read somewhere here on this forum that S.I. just got all 1DmkII N's

hmm, i wonder where we can find out what they are shooting with. i would have thought that they used combination of 1DmkII and some medium format cameras for the the studio and on location work...

No wonder you're struggling -- you're using bad glass. So your images won't be any better on a 1Ds ...

The 50/1.8 is notoriously bad with focussing, and the 70-300 is a cheapo. Don't know anything about the Tamron, but I'd suspect its AF is not real crash hot either.

So before you buy your 5D (IMO, more bang for buck than 1D series -- I'm keen for one!), buy some L glass. Maybe the 70-200 2.8 for starters, if you're mostly shooting sports, or perhaps a 24-105. I think you will notice the difference immediately.

Your current lenses will rarely focus fast enough or accurately enough in a real-life situation. And they have slow apertures too, which means the 350D with struggle with them (more so than the 30D or the 5D). New glass is MUCH more important than a new body tho.

well i dont use the Sigma at all. The 50mm 1.8 is said to be a very good cheap lens that eveyone swears by. and the 200-500 is rated right up there with the 100-400L based on reviews.

another thing you can do is go to your local photo store and ask to play with a nice fast lens like the 70-200 2.8. mount it on the camera and take a few shots, see if that helps. i am willing to bet that you will see great improvment..

Lots more swear *AT* this lens....

Try some good glass. My personal picks are 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, 17-85 IS USM, 17-40 f/4L, 24-105 f/4L.
When you've understood the power of their ultrasonic focus drive, you will never go back. I know for sure, that I can't.

The 50/1.8 is great for the price. But would you seriously think about getting a $5000 body to put behind your $100 lens? I had my 50/1.8 for a while, but it's just too flaky for serious use. And the Tamron 200-500 may hold up well for its price, but it's slower (aperture wise) than the Canon equivalent, doesn't have IS, and under-performs badly wide open. Meaning you need to stop down a bit to get sharp images and at that length you can't afford to because of your shutter speed.

Trust me ... use some good Canon glass (with USM focussing) and you will totally understand how crappy your lenses really are.
