Great Steve,

Couple of questions though, why not the 100-400mm with IS?

Because I wish to get either/or and your opinion would weigh in on my decision to buy...

What about extension tubes? Are you into that macro stuff?

Anyway, Take your time and enjoy the new lens and post some Ducks...

DUCK SHOT! DUCK SHOT!!

I sold my Bigma a short while ago, a bit too heavy for a lightweight like me. Tremendously fine zoom if one puts in the time and effort to master it though. It's not one of those things you pick up and immediately expect spectacular results out of, it's one of the lenses you must spend time and patience with.

Bought a 300 f/4L instead......that lens *DID* deliver mind-blowing results on its first day out though ;)

To be honest, the price had a lot to do with it. I bought a second 20D, a grip with a battery, and the Bigma for $1,450.00. I was, in fact, leaning towards the 100-400mm, but this was simply too good a deal to pass up.

Essentially, the decision was either to buy another lens, or buy a complete second rig.

I haven't gotten into extension tubes, but have thought about it. I don't really do any macro, though...

Great deal Steve,

That's what I paid for my similar camera (30D) 8.1MP, without the the Bigma...You know you got a pretty sweet deal there...
Now the doubler, I hear your Tamron might not cut it...

I've read similar statements in other postings...The questions about same, are somewhere in other threads...don't know if they got a good answer.

Earlier today, printed out the compatibility list for both the Sigma and Canon 1.4x..on the B & H web site, listed with the lens description...have yet to interpret it...It's easy reading and tells you if you get manual or Auto focus...plus the f stop conversion etc...

Well, I'll give you an "A" for effort.

The 70-200mm f/2.8L is my work-horse for concert photography. The Bigma won't cut it in a low light situation...

Yeah, I put the two of them on the camera last night and got nothing. If I have to sell the Tamron and go with something else, I certainly will...

Congrats Steve, you can use it now with your BushHawk set up too. Is it new and the DG version? Regardless, you'll enjoy this gem.

Followed up on the B & H compatibility charts and Tamron does not offer the chart...There is written jargon re: compatibility for the different models of the Tamron TC's on each of their web pages, but no chart...

Only Sigma and Canon have the compatibility Charts; link is under "Specifications or Description" on each lens respective web page.

Good Luck with your hunt...
