I have the 10-22 EFS, thinking of getting the new EFS 17-55. Will the hood from my 10-22 work on the 17-55? I also have the 24-105 L. Tell me it is not too much overlap to have all 3 (you know I want to hear that.) And do you think the 17-55 is sharper than the other 2 lenses?

I don't have a 24-105 and 17-55, but I am getting a 24-105, and couldn't decide which one would be better. A very kind member sent me some 100% shots from both lenses. The consensus (and the shots I saw support this) is that IQ is pretty similar on both lenses. I'd have thought that the differences between individual lenses would be all that separates them IQ wise.

I have both the 10-22 and the 17-55. The hood from the 10-22 will fit on the 17-55 but really doesn't help it all other than maybe for protection.
Since I got the 17-55, I hardly ever use my 10-22. Only pull out the 10-22 if I need something REALLY wide!
The 17-55 is sharper than the 10-22 as well.
Overall a GREAT lens that makes switching to a 5D that much harder, because I would have to give this lens up.

Hey. I have the 17-55 and 10-22. The 17-55 is sharper than the 10-22 in my experience. But it's not like the 10-22 is a slouch either, it's excellent.
And yes, the 10-22 hood will physically fit on the 17-55.... but it is not optimized for it at all and will be quite ineffective on that lens.

I don't have the 24-105 but I probably wouldn't want to own both the 17-55 and 24-105. What I would do is sell the 24-105 and get a 70-200. Either the 70-200 2.8, where you'll gain an extra stop, or the 70-200 F4 IS which is coming soon! It is only about $100 more expensive than the 24-105 according to B&H. And with ANY 70-200 model you can expect razor sharp images from. I dunno, just seems better to extend your range rather than duplicate a lot of it.

I have the 10-22 and 17-55 f/2.8. I considered the cost of the hood to be part of the cost of the 17-55 at the time I bougth it. I have not regretted the small (comparatively) extra cost, but wish Canon would be more honest with the pricing and set the price so they could include everything you need in one box.

If you have the 24-105, you might want to check whether its hood will fit on the 17-55. Since the 17-55 is designed for EF-S cameras only, its hood should be designed to accomdate what would be a 27 mm lens on a full frame camera. The 24-105 is designed for use on both full frame and EF-S cameras, so the hood should be wide enough.
