I just picked up a new 1Ds Mark II from Amazon. Having a 5D and a MkII N, I think the 1Ds may be the best of both worlds. It has the features of the MkII N and it has the IQ and high ISO performance of the 5D. Sorry, Dante, I think you're going to miss your 1Ds II. I think it may be the perfect camera.

Why two 1D bodies? Mainly, I want to be able to use them in conjuntion for sports shooting. This weekend my wife's team is playing in the Ultimate Frisbee Southern Regional Championships in Little Rock. I'm hoping to generate some good images of this fast paced game. But I can also see where the 1Ds is going to be my every day goto camera. I fear my 5D may become quite neglected.

She just arrived yesterday so after dinner I took the family to our favorite local park. I couldn't think of a better lens to use than the EF 135 f/2L. These were shot right at sunset. Numbers 3 and 4 are of two boys that we had the good fortune to meet.

Dante is missing the camera already. He's crying in the soup of the day special. He knows he made a mistake. He'll never be happy with the 5D. He's a manly man and it just won't do.

Nice pics.

Thank you. And thank you, kat and tareq.

Yeah, I hate to say it but the combo to have may be the 1Ds MkII and the 1D MkII N.

But the 5D is amazing. It's the camera that got me here.

Thanks, Blonde. That's my favorite too. What amazes me is that I must have shot around 100 photos last night and most of them were keepers. The 1D AF system just doesn't allow you to get very many soft shots.

Cheers. :)

I like the 4th shot... The shirt matches the background, really pulls out the face. :)

I want to like the 5D, I really do. But personally, I'm spoiled and will never give up my 1Dxx body. I almost bought the 1DS2 over the 1D2N, but another $2k just wasn't practical. I came from a 1.6x camera, so a 1.3x was a nice enough difference. Quite honestly, I don't miss not having full frame and enjoy the faster speed of the 1D2N. Some day I might "upgrade" but there's nothing drawing me with the current lineup/features.

Josh, its like this. Soon there will be a replacement for the 1dsmk2. It will be higher MP and might even have a crop feature to raise the fps. It WILL have digic3. Better dynamic range, iso performance and metering improvements. All this goes into making a more advanced camera. I will own one.

I think you will find like I do, that the 1dsmk2 is freaking AWESOME!! Yes its true, but shooting sports, it is lacking. fps is way to low.

For the time, I will "slum it" with my 1dmk2N and 5D. :)

Besides, when a 8K camera is already being sold with low clicks for 5500$, I could not negotiate a better move before the bottom really falls out on price. I am willing to wait for Canon to release the next 1dsmk2 variant or If I was wrong, I'll pick up one, maybe 2 for a song.

I in no means want to diminish your joy over this camera. You have so much to be happy about. It was a dream of mine to own it. yes I am still second guessing my move. Enjoy it. It is truly sweet.

Many times i was dreaming to get 2 1-series bodies, so i got one, now the second one is still in wishlist waiting whats new model willCanon producing, in all cases i think that 1DsmkII will stay in markets for few years, not so far long time my next 1-series FF will be here, i don't doubt of that.

Dante, I think your rationalization is a shrewd one. There is no doubt that the 1Ds MkII will be dropping in price in the next year. There is no doubt that its replacement is in the works.

And don't get me wrong, I love my 5D. I very much look forward to hearing your opinions on and seeing your shots from that very fine body. And while I'm pretty hooked on the 1D bodies I have no intention of selling my 5D. I think that should tell you something about the 5D. I took a couple of shots last night with the 1Ds in our dining room using 1600 ISO. I can tell you flat out, the 5D has noticably lower noise than the 1Ds at that ISO setting. But let's not talk about the N above 800....not very impressive when compared to the other two.

If I could have only one, though, it'd have to be the EOS-1Ds Mark II.

Cheers. :)

Well DUH big feller!! Again, enjoy it. The 5D body seems like a toy compared to the 1 series. Its output is anything but toy-like.
