I am not sure if this should be in the bird or urban life section  j/k I see these guys perched on light polls along the freeway all the time. This time, I had my 400 with me and got this shot. C&C appreciated :)

Well, up here in WA I see hawks about every third light pole on the freeways. I like the image on the pole as it documents adaptation to the environment. The images are against a crisp clean sky and seem to balance well.

#1 could be a little sharper, you may want to try the unsharp mask in Photoshop CS2 if that is your editing program to make the image a little less soft.

Thank you for the comment. What would you recommend on the USM 300, 0.1 and 0

I was going to say the same thing, don't think it's a redtail. They have a whitish belly.
Good shot, though. I've been trying to get a good shot of a redtail and they are just too far away for my little 200. :(

Not sure either if it's a redtail but they're nicely captured shots. I would have preferred a head-on for the flyer.

Hmm, I will have to ask the local bird expert, I have always thought these were red tail adults, but I have been known to be wrong, alot

You are exactly right about the ID, I looked it up in my bird book and it listed this exact pic as a "Dark Morph Red Tail Hawk, these make up about 20% of the North American population"
