I noticed today that I had some specs on the back of my 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens, but when I went to wipe them off they wouldn't come off, because they are behind the glass inside the lens. Anyone have this problem? Was it from condensation?

I guess I need to go to a dealer to have them take it apart in order to clean it.

do you have an electronic dry box?

if you do, put it in - it will work. i've had water in my lens removed before by putting it in a dry box.

I dont' have one of them. The dealer and service senter said to let it be, unless image quality was greatly effected, since it is a big deal to fix. The image quality still look sgood. They did not recommend the electronics dry box, stating that it might adversely affect the electronics of the lens?

Is this lens under warranty? If so i would send it back to canon to be cleaned! Say that you noticed some dust inside when you bought it. The reason i say use this excuse is because they may see the water droplets as your fault, for example, and i only hypothesise here, they may think that you have gone out inthe rain with it, or taken it to a condition where the lens isn't rated to go.
However i can almost guarentee that when they are "cleaning" it they will sort out the water droplet problem, im a little suprised they didn't offer to do it, it's not a hard job for them to do, it's strange they are ignoring the issue, you should be entitled to a lens without water in lol

The lens is way out of warranty. I've had it a while.

I don't think they are lying. I've known the guy at the dealer a long time and he doesn't even charge me for a lot of stuff. He's also very knowledgeable and has been around a long time. This isn't your typical dealer, there are no cleaks. Everyone who works in the shop is a long time pro photographer on the side.
