i tend not to use it too much beyond f/4, well for most of my wildlife i normally use it at f/2.8, but i used it in corfu for some landscape at f/8, although that was a rarity.

The only time mine sees F/4 or F/5.6 is with the extenders on ;)

The 200 1.8 is generally accepted as one of the sharpest, if not THE sharpest, lenses ever produced. Usually followed by the 135 F2 and 300 F2.8.

i suppose it will have to do :( lol, at least it cuts down onthe weight of a 600 f/4, i don't think i could use a 600 f/4 handheld

avoid the red stripe, low budget sigmas (which are generally sold by wolf/ritz as part of the quantaray - run away and don't look back)

the 85mm 1.8 is very sharp and i'll also give a strong agreement for the 135L

Avoid the red stripe? And you have some!

I'll have to research the prices of the lenses you all listed; or you guys can save me the trouble, what the best bang for your buck when it comes to these?

The sharpest lens is the 200 f/1.8. It beats other lenses at all apertures. But that one is very expensive and hard to find. Second will be the 500 f/4, closey followed by 85 f/1.2 and 135 f/2. See my footer (glass buying guide) for some graphics comparing different lenses.
