The city is too small. Not enough buildings and lights on at night to get my desired effects. Combine this with the simple danger factor (of gangs and bad people) of shooting there at night and you have a real problem.

Yeah, when I think Louisville, KY at night I think gangs and violent crime :-D.

Sorry, ok it might just be as bad as you say (although I live in NYC and I find myself taking photos of all kinds of stuff at 2AM, can't really see KY being any worse and NYC isn't bad at all) are there any state parks around? I find they're pretty nice for photo ops. I usually go around Central Park photographing all kinds of people, musicians, dancers, rollerbladers, people playing football, people taking wedding photos and DUCKS! Lots and lots of ducks, they're all over the place, they make excellent models and they work for nothing :-D. It's nice having a long lens, plus there are tons of photographers around on nice days.

I agree with the macro photography idea, I wasn't shooting much till I got a macro lens then I just went all over the house and shot all kinds of stuff, then outside there are plenty of insects and flowers to shoot.

But interesting to photograph, eh?

"What about the farms and horses" you say? Honestly, its fairly ugly. The farms arent nice like you'd expect and the horses are all too far away or hiding.

Sometimes ugly is good. An old farm, rusty metal work, a broken old window made back when glass wasn't 100% transparent. Be cliché and convert them to B&W shots.

Yeah. Interesting to get stabbed in the side as my camera is yanked from my neck while they smash my lenses against the side of a brick building. Pretty interesting!

gang members get their pics taken enough...ya might wanna re-think venturing out into the "hood" at night.. Try just going for a walk(in the day) and just shoot all sorts of stuff... ever find a great photo op, shoot the hell out of it then go home and look at the shots and think, what the hell was so good about that thing? why did I shoot it at all? well, it can go just the opposite too, shoot something drab abd everyday normal and you just might be surprised at what it looks like on film (mem card..lol) try it. One day on the way to work i put my cam on M mode, stopped down to F4 and slowed the shutter to about 1/4 of a sec.. and shot out the driver side window at the oncomming traffic, some were butt ugly and some were cool. I think i got 5 keepers from about 40 shots! it was fun, differen and interesting!
