70-300 LD Di Macro 140ish
50 1.8 II 50ish

And get the (add money ofcourse) 50mm 1.4 or the 85mm f/1.8, or the 100mm 2.8 macro?

Do you use the tele? I personally always wanted a tele-zoom than I bought one, didn't use it, sent it back...So if you don't use it, toss it.

I think the 50 1.4 or the 85 will definetly be great replacements of the 1.8

edit thnking more about it, 100macro would be agreat choice!

LOL, seems like the decision is just as hard as i thought it was... the tele is a great lens, but i hardly use it, i use the 70-200 f4L with the teleconverters more often, so no, i dont really use it, the 50 1.8 i use about 85% of the time but always wish i had a slightly tighter crop, so i use the tc's

I think i might do this, keep the 50 1.8, sell the 70-300, and get the 100 2.8 macro

true. i always wanted a 70-200mm f/2.8 - afterall, almost everyone has one. but i got a 135L and an ef 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 instead and i hardly use the 70-210, and this is not because of the 135L.

wait, so you use the 50mm f/1.8 85% of the time - with or without the tcs.

probably 80% of the 80% without, and about 20% with the 1.4 TC

TCs work on the 50? I thought they had only worked on the 70-200 and 100-400 or soemthing. I don't know why I think that, butjust what I thought....

So TCs can work on any lens? (Excepts EF-S I know they don't work on them for sure)

ive never used the 2x on the 50, i guess i could try it real quick, but with the 1.4, i retain autofocus

350D + 1.4TC + 50 1.8

400D + 2x TC + 50mm 1.8 worked fine, retained autofocus
400D + 2x TC + 1.4x TC + 50 1.8 Lost autofocus, but captures images fine, stopped down and MF

for canon tcs, they will work only only lenses above 135mm cause it has a protruding lens element.

the sigma, tamron, kenko tcs have no problems.

Thanks! I may have to invest into something like that instead of another lens. I learned something new today, YAY! :)

Fureinku:

Interesting that you don't have AF with the 2x+1.4x, as 1.8x2 is 3.6, and that turns to 4, right? and then 1.4 on aperture 4 will turn to 5.6, right? So 50mm x 2 = 100mm, and 100mm x 1.4 = 140mm, and that on 400D is 140mm x 1.6 = 224mm, so actually Canon EF 224mm f/5.6.

I'd toss the 70-300 and get a 85 1.8 but that's just me. Don't do any macro shots to speak of so would can that idea. Unless you do macro a lot it wouldn't make sense
