I absolutely LOVE my 70-200mm f4 L. I was using it today at the dragstrip, and the sharpness just amazes me constantly. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but here's a 100% crop with mine today. Now this is SHARP!

Don't mind the 'squiggly' looking bokeh... It's the heat rising off the track.

gotta love that new L smell!

My two 'L's didn't come with a smell. Is that because I bought 'grey market/import' instead of 'USA' versions?

No, the smell is the one that escapes from your wallet, after becoming completely devoid of all money.

Presenting my 100% crop. Naturally I cherry picked it, but I think this sharp is AMAZINGLY sharp considering the conditions it was shot in... indoors, in very low light, at night.

No post processing on this shot... EXIF is 1/250 sec, F/4.5, 154mm, ISO 1600, no flash.

This was with my 300D. Not too bad for a 3-4 year old camera with only 6.3mp :)

*EDIT* Ooops... I put the 5x7 version up for a second... This is the entire image!

Crazy... I just checked my EXIF data on that shot I posted above... I don't know what I was thinking taking it at f4! That's DAMN sharp for wide open! I love my L!

its an AWSOME lens...I use to shoot mine at f4 95% of the time
It was RAZOR sharp as well. it took me a long time to finally say ok I wanna upgrade to a 2.8
but I did now and my new sigma 70-200 DG should be here by wed...I hope its atleast close to the IQ that I use to get with my 70-200f4L

I think that if I ever decide that I need 2.8 and/or IS, I am going to have a really hard time letting go of my f4. It was the lens that really 'changed' my photography. My images have gotten MUCH better since I got it, even when I am using a different lens. I can't explain exactly why though. Maybe its' because I see just how great of shots I can get, and won't be satisfied with the so-so shots I used to be thrilled with.
