Grandkids

I took this photo this past weekend of my three kids and my niece, my ILs wanted a photo of all the grandkids. Yikes yeah they didn't know what they were asking, I knew it would be hard but not this hard!
My son is 8 weeks in this shot, my niece just turned 6 months, then my 3 year old and almost 6 year old. Ha! Cooperation was WAY too much to ask. The older two just did not want to help at all, my niece was all pictured out (I had my gear out for her 6 month portraits) and my son was getting hungry. Got to love it. LOL
On a side note I got to use my brand new 50mm and I like it alot, esp for closeups. Other items used during shoot besides my 50mm, my 20D of course, continous lights, backdrop and some goofy parents. LOL

Ps. I bow to you guys who can take good portraits of a group of kids, I thought my kids were easy but not so much when you add a 6 month old and a newborn to it. Yikes!

I`ve been doing this kind of shot in my studio for a while now. It`s very hit or miss whether you get everyones attention at the right time.
Patience is the key to doing kids (and a hand puppet that squeeks). You also have to be lucky. Toddlers from about 14 months to three years are the hardest to do. Zero attention span and normally really stroppy because they are teething.

This was my first "studio" attempt with it, I did a impromtu shot with just my three kids a coupla weeks ago and liked it so I thought I'd try it with my niece as well. My toddlers could always be bribed into doing a session, I've done it several times, this time they weren't too happy with it tho...my niece did pretty well for a 6month old, she kept looking at her mom tho....my infant son however was the trick, if he wasn't looking off to the side sucking his fingers he was flat out squalling. =oP I'm gonna have to try it again in a coupla weeks and hope for better results. But hey my MIL wanted a shot of all 4, I did my best. LOL

Thanks Art. LOL this was probably the easier of the shots I took, I tried having all the kids sit but that didn't work at all even with my oldest holding my youngest. Oh I certainly hope it will be cherished, LOL.
