Robin and Cardinal - CC Needed

This is depressing. New 100-400L IS USM, AF, hand held, IS on, ISO 200 on a D60. This robin was no more than 30 feet away. Shouldn't it be way sharper? The EXIF is intact.

Short answer: NO!

Longer answer, and reason why: With a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second you will most likely never get ultra sharp results, even with steady hands...even with the IS of that lens on. Overcast conditions, as present on this Robin shot, would require you to boost the ISO to at least 400, maybe even 800. You'll get better shutter speeds this way, and much better results. Hope this helps!

It was really cloudy dark and the bird was down a bank and under a tree. I just got this the other day, and it hasn't been bright enough yet to use it right. So what f/stop and speed do you try for with this lens?
