I'm just trying to talk myself out of buying the Canon 85mm 1.8. I recently purchased the Tamron 28-75 and I just love it but I have always wanted the Canon 85mm. I like to take portraits of my kiddos and their various sports but I'm thinking I could do that with the Tamron too right?
Someone help me save some money unless there are other reasons that I need to purchase this lens.

Well... If you want to save some money on the deal, why don't you skip on the 85mm f1.8, and get a 50mm f1.8 instead. You should always have at least one fast lens in your bag for when the lighting gets bad.
For shooting kids (click, not bang
) I like to use my 70-200mm f4 L and stay back a ways. That way I can let the kid play more naturally, and I can get good shots without having to chase them around. My favorite shots are the ones where they are just doing their thing and I am able to capture it. I'm not a huge fan of posed shots of children. To me they just lack reality. Maybe that's just because I'm so used to chasing a 2 y/o around.
