1. Carl Zeiss Jena DDR [MC S 1:3.5 f = 135]

what a different between just S and Sonnar?

I'm pretty sure they are both the same lens. Condyk and Tiziano use MF primes a lot, hopefully they'll pick up on this thread and confirm for you.

The CZJ company changed logo's and designations a few times depending on production runs and politics of the day, while the lenses were pretty much the same regardless.

both are the same lens, the S is just an abv for sonnar. first one is taken directly off the front of the lens, while the second is just a standard lazy man's description:rolleyes:

as for price, an actual zeiss might set you back between 1500 and 8k (used to new telephoto). hard to find that exact lens though

M42s Sonnars are more popular than they were, but I'm sure you can find one around $50 or so... Check eBay.

There are no cheap wide lens in manual glass. You are better off buying a recent zoom (Sigma 18-50 etc) you will get descent quality for a very reasonable price.
"good" manual wide angles for for a lot more than these modern lens.

Only cheap-ish (they are going up) wide angles are the russina fisheyes (Peleng & Zenitar)

Well the Zuiko 21mm f/3.5 can sometimes be had for roughly the same price as the Peleng fish-eye, although it is also rare enough that sometimes bidding resembles a feeding frenzy. Mine cost £180, but for some of us that isn't necessarily cheap.

You know that a Carl Zeiss Jena is not same as a Carl Zeiss T* (West Germany)? Big difference!

The CZJ 135mm 3.5 is an amazing lens if you get a nice, mint one. Prices vary depend on bidding demand. I waited a long time to get mine mint and boxed and at the right price. It's probably my favourite lens. Not ultra sharp like the L's but somehow better to my eye and more natural. Wonderfully 'emotive' lens ... if a lens can be that! Also, awesome bokah.

Here are a few samples from last Xmas 1 2 3 4

I don't use my copy much because it's not a length that fits well with my shooting style but when I do use it I enjot it a great deal. It's a wonderful piece of design in every way. I really like the 'foreskin style' hood too  Works beautifully and makes a rich swishing noise as it extends and retracts.

I paid £20 for mine some time ago and disassembled it and cleaned it myself. Go check out any local camera shops that you have, it's not a rare lens but it is very nice particularly in colour and bokeh.

ROFL

While you're not the classical "size obscessed" Freudian case, you're a very close deviant as evidenced by the associate thinking.

What do the usual hoods remind you of?
How about plastic rain covers?

I'll never be able to look at the sonnar with the same eyes again.

BTT: I don't think you'll be able to find a good wide angle in screwmount or as a manual focus lens. They're just too hard to design for SLRs.

I've picked up two lenses for 20 bucks each. 135/3.5 and 35/3.5 Both pentaxes.

They are very cool and small lenses.

Ah, but it wasn't an unconscious outburst so I am off the hook young fella ;-)a

I must say tho' I had an instant familiarity with the much larger 300mm IS L first time I handled it
