I just wanted to share a snapshot of an appetizer. This was taken with the Canon 24mm f/2.8 wide open. The only light source was a big window behind the appetizer. Looking back, I’m a bit sad I didn’t use a reflector to get a little bit more light on the front side, but as I said, it was just a snapshot. For a bit larger version, just click the picture.

C&C is more than welcome as usual. Thanks for looking :)

Thanks PAFC2004 and zacker. I must admit I’m not completely crazy for seafood myself, but this actually tastes heavenly :)

I'm from South Carolina's lowcountry around Charleston so I love seafood. Good photo.

That looks very good to me. Nice natural light as well. I wish I had a breakfast like that today. Kids are making pancakes. Well, at least I didn't have to cook. :)

Nice sharp shot and angle is correct, looking at it. :)

I think the natural light works very nicely here too. But with a reflector, I could have made the eggwhite a little bit lighter. I had no idea it would turn out this good anyway, else I would have made more of an effort :)

Thanks for the comment Suzie.

Yes, it is shrimps, egg, a little bit of mayo, salmon (very thin slices) on a toast, and of course a lettuce leaf.

I’ve been wondering a lot about what a suitable lens would be for food photography. Some people recommend macro lenses (like the 100mm f/2.8 Macro), and other talk about the 85mm (f/1.8 or f/1.2). I guess there are different ideas of how DOF should be applied (heard everything from super thin DOF to everything in focus).

From what I’ve been reading, I must say I’m pretty hyped by the performance of the 24mm f/2.8. As I had only borrowed the lens when I used it, I haven’t been able to test so much with it. Could it be a good food photography lens?

I'm not a sea food guy either, but this shot is awesome, I don't think your lacking on light on the front side either...You cant take a reflector everywhere ;) My wife said it looks delicious though! But hse's Japanese and lives on sea food lol
