heya Luke/Kinnon.

I called regarding the same thing. If the body is imported (grey) and sold under an AU ABN, they said it IS covered. I rang because mine was sold that way. AU ABN but imported from HK.

OK ... but make sure you have a warranty card with it ;-)a I had a 10-22mm lens imported from HK and it didn't have a warranty card. Didn't need it anyway, but still ... ;-)a

My tripod comes with one (see gear list) ... apart from that, no idea sorry.

But if you're wanting to do panoramic shots with it, most panoramic heads (like the Panosaurus, http://gregwired.com/pano/Pano.htm (external link), which I just ordered) come with a built-in level. I've only needed the level for panoramas ...

Technically, yes. But my parcel with more than AU$3500 worth of stuff from B&H wasn't intercepted and I never paid a cent to Customs nor UPS.

However, you are 100% correct. They have every right to charge you GST but I think I was just REALLY lucky. :)

BTW, I am so in love with my 70-200!

interesting, i have had 4 packages over 1k from B&H and all paid GST, i know of atleast 50 people who have imported from B&H and all paid GST

Cider - Australian laws regarding import duty mean that anything about the value of 1K attracts both import duty, and GST. The import duty is paid on the item only (5% from memory), and GST is paid on the item + shipping+ import duty. I had a very good look at all of this last year when I was thinking of buying a 300mm f2.8 from overseas...Australians get ripped off price wise in pretty much every single thing that you can think of. Don't believe the BS that it's because of shipping costs (cos we're so isolated), or our small population. It's all down to local wholesale prices set by greedy local business, and our greedy Australian government and the R.T.S (rort taxation system).

Lenses ARE covered by international warranty. Imported versions will be repaired locally under warranty.

If buying from B&H......just make sure you get the US version :)
