Michael, I've been wanting to get some sensor swabs for a while, I can go you halves if you like?

I've just had a thought.....I was looking at the copperhill site and they don't import their sensor cleaning fluids and swabs due to customs, I wonder if this place has the same issues?

It also means they can hold (and use) my money while they dick around getting the product to me...

Yeah, that's annoying I guess. Hope you get it soon ... if it only takes a few days it isn't too big a deal tho.

Interesting!

I picked up my Copperhill kit from www.qualitycamera.com.au (external link) ... that doesn't help with the customs issue, but you might want to check it out ...

Hi John,
What version of the Sigma 24-70 do you have? I'm looking at the 24-70 F2.8 EX DG, is this your crap version, if so can I ask why. I'd rather not waste my $$$ if this is the case.

Cheers

Mine is the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro and the AF is dodgy on it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I caused the problem by shooting in a damp environment but, if it had been an internal zoom like the Canon 24-70, it wouldn't have been a problem. Further to that, it has a different filter size and I am really not into buying separate CP filters for each lens.

Luke is right - Quality Cameras have the fluid - and will ship it - it's one of those things that just happen... The fluid is 'supposed' to travel overland or seafreight... ;)

Don't know if it matters or not, but the Canon does extend when zooming (well, extends toward the shorter end of the zoom range)

Yup Nick's right. The Canon 24-70 f/2.8L extends when widening... i.e in it's most compact it's at 70, and when it's at 24 it's at it's longest... but it's weather sealed so may help John's damp environment

They were caught with their pants down, according to their web site - more orders than expected. Possibly shipping Monday or Tuesday - hmmm - and I am leaving here Thursday for a couple of weeks... I may be making a phone call and cancelling the order - try for duty free or NZ$ prices

That's the point I missed in my post - while I am careful with my gear, I don't hold back to get a shot - it was ANZAC Day - the old diggers were marching in the drizzle - I was taking pix - the lens was damp (not wet) and when I zoomed the moisture was neatly filtered by the AF motor circuits...

The 5D isn't weather sealed - but it's pretty good in most conditions. The 1DMKIII is weather sealed - so that and the Canon 24-70 would be a good parade combination in those narrow Sydney streets.

(In Canberra, however, we need the 70-200 to get off the footpath! Old Walt designed a city with REALLY wiiide streets.)

John, regardin the card issue , I'm not surprised they got flooded with orders at those prices. Still , it was predictable.
So is a MK3 on the shopping list now?

yup - The Aussie Bride agreed to the extra funds a few days ago - and has already told a local pro photog that I am getting one! The pro looked up the specs and decided she wanted one, too - and that she would be able to afford one in about 3 to 4 weekends of shooting... :(

Nice, Dave, I particularly like the one with Centrepoint Tower in the background.

I'd also like to announce that is my 1000th post and that I am therefore now officially 'senior' in the POTN world :-)
