Hey all,
Just wondering if someone could point me to where I could get an umbrella, stand and adapter to hold a flash unit, locally?

Try http://www.madsens.com.au/ (external link) in Wollongong they have a big range of that stuff and have good beginner sets right up to the top of the line professional stuff. You can buy online or over the phone and they will ship it to you.

Can anyone help with business names in Australia? Do you all have them or do you just trade under your own name (as long as you don't add Photography or Studio etc it looks like it doesn't need to be registered)?

I'm just starting out and this will be part-time...I don't know what I really NEED to do...

I would strongly recommend you register a business name even if it is only your name. It offers some protection, plus it makes it a lot easier if you want to register for a domain name for a web site later on.

I would also recommend that the business name have the word "Photographer" or Photography" in it. i.e. Kiristin Anderson Photography.

That will enable to register a web site by the same name and having the word "photographer" in a domain name will give you a better ranking on search engines, making it more likely for people to find you when they do a search on “photographer”.

Just a bit of recommended forward planning. I also develop web sites part-time for small businesses.

Thank, Mark!

I have two domains - a long one and a short one - already. Unfortunately my name + photographer or photography weren't available. I might have to talk to you a bit about what steps I need to do now to get going :)

Hey Everyone,

Any one heading to Temora Aviation Museum this weekend. I'm thinking about making the trip over. There will be 3 FA/18 Hornets visiting too.

I have an uncle heading to the US later this month and he's told me that if I want anything to order it and get it delivered to his hotel.

I've been looking at Amazon, (B&H is not taking orders till next week so they might be out), and just hit upon BuyDig as recommended by our friends across the pond in another thread so will be checking them for prices etc.

Has anyone done this before? I know warranty will probably be an issue. Any recommendations for who to go with, maybe even get an international warranty? Recommend avoiding this even if the savings are pretty decent?

(sorry if this has come up before in the thread, it's a very big thread and my search terms didn't show anything relevant)

I'm contemplating it but will not know until Friday. If I go it will be on Sat.

Hi All,

I'm Dan. I've been lurking here since the thread was on page 265 so I thought it was about time I said hello.

I'm an amateur in every sense of the word but I'm fascinated by both the technical and artistic sides of photography, although as I'm not particularly good at either. This thread is great for me as it lets me speak to people in the same country with the same issues and hopefully get some good advice along the way.

Anyway, enough ranting. I've attached a couple of my attempts. One's from the other morning and the others of my 6 month old daughter converted to B&W from colour.

Oh, I just wanted to know if it's bad form or not to ask a question of the forum after the first post?

Cheers.

Thanks. I had a feeling that might happen. I'm not sure I used the 'Manage Attachments' option correctly. It still says 'Uploading Files' after 5 minutes. Maybe I should just get a Flickr account and link to there?

OK, got the Flickr set up. Hope these links work.

So it's been a bit quiet in these here parts. Anyone awake?

My absence is explained by my broken internet - on supposedly 56k speeds for at least another day or so and it's not even running that fast.. I can't load pages 90% of the time. I'm gonna have a lot to catch up on once I get the 'net back :p

Damn housemates downloading way too much again and putting us over the limit.

It's a pity it wasn't a real game of cricket. We might care if it was. :-P

And since when have kiwis been any good at cricket anyway? Bit rich to have a go at us from the other side of the Tasman!!

Humph.
