50mm is an awkward length on 1.6 crop cameras. I have a 50/1.4 and while it's optically superb and I'll probably keep it, I suspect it will see little use when I have a 28/1.8 or 30/1.4. I hope that helps!

luke if you do want to sell it kyl3 on here is desperate for one let me know and ill have him contact you.

Hey Kinnon,

I did the course through a some what private institution, it was a Certificate 4 in Small Business Management, its the equivilant to a Tafe course but run over 5-6 weeks as opposed to Tafe which was 12 months.

I found it more helpful than anything i have learnt to do with photography itself, it helped me set better goals, layout a proper plan for the business which will be attainable, ideas on marketing and how to target my specific market better. The difference (they told us) between this course and Tafe is that fact the final assesment was for us to complete a Business Plan, from what i was told Tafe doesnt do this, add the fact it was such an intense course as it was crammed in to 6 weeks you didnt get a chance to lose interest and for me it helped me stay focused.

It may have been your lecturers, our makreting guy was brilliant, finance not so much :) but he still made it clear enough to understand and learn just a tad boring :)

I would recommend anyone wanting to get in to business do something in the way of education, it cant hurt but it can definately help, the fact i have a plan and a set out direction is comforting for me now all i have to do is shoot and not worry so much about other stuff. Not to mention the contacts you can get from it, i have already scored 4-5 on going gigs which i would never had been able to prior.

Cheers for the reply. May have been my lecturers then. The lady who did the financial side of things was hopeless. She seemed like a nice lady but she kept getting distracted. Someone would ask her a question and she'd talk about the question the whole time and we wouldn't cover what we were actually supposed to. The business side of things wasn't too bad. The lecturer was great we just didn't seem to cover much :S

To those that have replied, many thanks. I was favouring the Sigma lens and your comments have pretty much confirmed my thoughts.

Cheers

Dan.

Dan,

I have the Sigma 30mm/1.4 and love it. I have a 14month old daughter and have used it almost entirely indoors with pictures of her.

I have tried a mates 50mm/1.8 at a wedding and found you had to stand back a fair bit to get the scene in. The 30mm indoors on the floor with your daughter, you won't be disapointed.

Cheers

Thanks for that ... but I do kinda like the lens, so it's worth more to me to keep than to sell (i.e. selling it will buy me ... not much).

Anyone interested... It is the Statewide Rural Fire Service Open Day tommorow. Most RFS Sheds in the state will open their doors to the public between around 10am and 2pm. I will be heading down south to Engadine, Loftus, Heathcote, Waterfall, Southern Comms @ Heathcote.

Just a note for the few of us who are interested in the emergency services (Yes im not the only one!)

Righto, I've finally got my weekend sorted out.

I'll be at Temora on Saturday so if any forum members are going to be there, PM me (tonight) and we'll arrange a meet-up.

Sunday I have to pay the penalty for my Sat leave pass. I've got to give my wife a child free day (My 2 plus a friend).

G'day Monstah, welcome to the club.

Nice shot of your darlin' there.

Your morning shot is great, it makes me feel like rugging up against the cold.

Temora is about an hour from Wagga and is the home of Temora Aviation Museum (http://www.aviationmuseum.com.au/ (external link)) a unique museum in such most if not all of the exhibits are actually airworthy. During the year the museum hosts flying days were they fly a selection of the museum exhibits. A lot of the time the flying days attract "visitors" eg the HARS Connie, Catalina, Neptune. Col Pay's Kittyhawk, various Mustangs etc. Last flying day a TBM Avenger came down from QLD. This time there will be 3 F/A-18 Hornets visiting and displaying.

If you are an aircraft nut or mildly interested it's a great day out.

I'd say it's slightly more that a few hours of train. I'd suggest it would be a full weekend including some of Friday to make the trip there and back.

It takes me approx 6 hours each way from the Central Coast driving, but to me it's worth it.

um - and then add another couple of hours for a bypass via Canberra...

It was great to catch up, Wardie.
