Nice to catch up with you ::John::, I'm sure that it is not usual to find a forum member asleep in your driveway very early on Sat morning.

I really loved using your 100-400 at Temora, it's really set my mind to get one (maybe when I'm back in work). Thanks for the lend especially when you could have jumped in the car and come with me for the day to use it yourself.

The learning curve was steep, especially the pump zoom instead of the twist but it's all practice, practice. The bloody zoom lock got me a couple of times zoomed too long and being unable to zoom out. I would have loved to have been there for the weekend as I reckon Sunday's shots would have been so much better that Sat.

A couple of shots from Sat (I'll start a new thread in Transport for teh rest).

(zoom lock stopped me framing better)

Wardie

Hey - no worries on the lens - as for the driveway stuff - you should have made your arrival known - I had been up since 5 - you could have come in and had a little doze in a comfortable chair.

Looks like the camera/lens combo is a winner for airshows - very nice.

Wish I could have seen the slideshow, but at 8kb/s it was going to take 40 minutes to download :-(

So while we're on the topic of slideshows, I reckon showitweb is the ants' pants. Sadly no export to DVD options, but pretty sexy for web stuff regardless, and usable for demos and what not. Sorry if I mentioned it here earlier (I might be confusing this with the wedding chit chat thread!!) but it is COOL :-)

Why so slow? Its should be around 100kbps...

Yeah i would have loved to use show it web, but i don't really want to pay that much for it.

This proshow gold is pretty good, i just don't know how to use the web version properly

Sunday at Temora was great, but I wish I had of been there Saturday for the blue skies, it gradually became overcast from the minute I arrived, which was a bit of a bummer, but was still an awesome day.
I was contemplating going around to the western side of the runway but since I've never done that before though it was best to stay where I was guaranteed to see the action. Although in the position I was in all day I copped a fair amount of dust all over my gear, some little kids didn't make that much better when they decided to play in the dust which was blown straight at me, asked them to stop playing in it numerous times but the parents just sat there and watched it happen, not to mention had them continously bumping my gear and climbing the fence in front of me while I tried to swing a 50-500 around, nothing against little kids, just gets a bit annoying after a while considering they were asked by me and others to not do it.
Anyway besides those few things it was a great day, I'll stick some shots up in days to come.

I got sick of that a long while ago - that and the flies...

I was talking with Wardie about seeing if we could get access permission to the western side - but for now we have a little possie at the northern end that lets us get some great shots, there are no little kids and we often end up talking to other photogs - like a retired Qantas engineer who shoots with a new Nikon.

The only downside to our 'new' location is the lack of facilities but I usually have food and drink in the fridge in the back of the truck - all we are really missing is the dunnies. We have an airband scanner, too, so we usually get to know what's about to happen.

We pop into the museum first, though - pay our money and get a flight program. They are not losing any money by us being off-field.

Thats sounds like a good setup John, I was refering to the little position that I see people at way down the souhern end of the runway, I thought thats where you guys went when you go there, didn't know about the little spot to the north.
I've been three times and everytime getting thinner with the little kids, so next time I might try and go when you guys are so I can come to this other spot. I had my scanner this time as well but never got it out for some reason.

::John:: & I shoot near the apex of the runways.

::John::, It looks like the western trees that we were thinking of are inside the air field perimeter.

I wouldn't even try.

I might try it with a Slingshot 300 - maybe.

Have you got grips on the cameras?
