Hi Guys,

Just want to give you all a warning - DO NOT BUY FROM DISCOUNT DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHICS - Sydney!!!

I have spent over $12,000 in that shop since January. I get a faulty 1D MKIIN from him and he won't help me. This thing was faulty from day 1, and he has basically said go to Canon and was not interested in helping me at all. That's just p!ss-poor.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Someone else just bought stuff from there and they said it was alright? (i cant remember how, but someone got the 24-70, sorry who ever it was )

I have never had a problem.....until now. He has a "7 day then you're Canon's problem" policy. Even though I could prove that problem was there 3 days after I bought the body (with images), it took me more than 7 days to narrow down the problem to the body.

Hey, Sure I'm bitter and angry. But I would expect better service given how much I have spent there.

Well, you wouldn't want to buy a gift for someone from him then.

:D :D :D :D Hehehehe

Exactly - I was thinking about the A630 for my wife for Christmas. I'd have to get it and fully test it every day for 7 days, then pray. Sounds feasible.

Just spent my $2k on a 16-36 and associated bits at another store - Suffer in your jocks !!!!

Hi Trent,

I posted a reply about your camera in your other thread, but I'll link it here for the info of others too. It's possibly not good news for you I'm afraid.
I hope you can get it all sorted out.

Thanks Fry...er Matt,

He has a FAQ on this too....
===============
6. What about the negative statements that have been made about parallel or 'grey' imports?

We believe that most of such comments are unwarranted and sometimes even false, and sometimes used to scare consumers. Parallel imports are called 'grey imports' by some to suggest some illegality about the origin of the products offered for sale. Factually, parallel imports simply refer to items that have been imported outside of the authorised distribution network in a particular country. It does not imply that the item is illegally sourced. We source our products directly from the manufacturer overseas or from a reseller. The fact is that parallel imports are legal in Australia. We believe this increases competition and ultimately, benefits the consumer.

I had my 100-400 from this tool in at canon for err01 2 weeks ago. they looked at the receipt and said nothing. I'll chance it again....

My understanding is that EF lenses and film camera bodies can have international warranties, so it's not so important where you get them - Canon Australia will still take care of them, but no digital bodies or EF-S lenses do. If not distributed through Canon Australia, their warranty here is covered only by the retailer. Something to do with a distinction between film and digital.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you may have some troubles with your 1DmkIIn and Canon Australia, particularly given it's new.

Keep us informed!

Cheers,
Mat.

EDIT: must be time for a new avatar ... :)

Parallel imports might be legal in Australia, but the manufacturer and local distributer is under no obligation to provide warranty support for said product.

This dealer said he'd take it back to canon for me. So if I have problems tomorrow, I'll just drop it off to him - 12 Month Warranty he says - I'll call him on that!!!

Hope it works out for you Trent.
Might be worthwhile to give fairtrading a call just to see where you stand legally on this.

Trent ... very sorry to hear that. I bought my 24-70 off him recently and am very happy but I won't touch him again if you don't get a resolution on this one.

Let me know if you want me to hassle him for you -- I've got a request in for a quote for a Tokina 12-24 and could easily retract it with a side note "I have a friend who needs a very expensive camera to be replaced ... you might wanna help him or there are a good number of shooter whose business you'll never have ..." Not that I'm a big fan of threatening people, but when you don't stand behind your promises you deserve to be hassled.

And fair trading would be interested, I'm almost certain.

Re: the insurance thing, I think someone said there's more chance of your car being stolen than your camera being nicked (or something to that effect?) ... but these expensive camera policies guarantee your equipment against accidental breakage as well as theft and other stuff. It's understandably expensive to pay for a policy that will give you money for new gear within 48 hours if you drop it. There's really no comparison with contents insurance here ;-)a

Sorry for the multiple posts but I'm addressing one topic per post ;-)a

Shot a school musical tonight. The school is protective about kiddie photos (I can't even publish them on a secure site) so I can't show anything here, but let's just say that I now have enormous respect for guys who are good at shooting this sort of stuff. Controlling DoF at f/2.8 under changing lights and switching from telephoto to wide angle as the stage opens up, not to mention metering consistently ... I was exhausted by the end and am a bit disappointed with a lot of my shots. I can probably shoot again on Wednesday (the musical runs for 3 nights) so might give it a shot.

I was also trying to take photos that parents would buy. Rather tricky to decide on that one where there are, like, 60-100 kiddies packed on to a stage.

Any advice for Wednesday? :-D (Actually I've already been thinking lots about it ...)

Great experience anyway.
