Minus the subject.... Color works well. Very nice shot! Oh, and I'm joking about the subject.

I will go against the grain and say I like the second black & white the best. But—I love black and white portraits.

I like the high contrast B&W.
...pity about the softbox reflection.

I must confess I normally go for black and white but in this case I think the colour works really well.

I did some portraits recently and put them on here for critique and I got mixed reactions about reflections in the shades...

If you can clearly see the reflection is something out of character like a laptop screen, or worse, the photographer or certain photographic kit then I agree it should be tidied up.

The Softbox... I don't know... We as photographers see a softbox but you have to ask yourself what will joe public see and the answer just might be some light reflecting in the shades in which case I think in some cases it can add to the picture... I mean, shades are meant to have reflections in them after all. Just a comment really. In this case I think maybe it would be better without the softbox reflections particularly the eye on the left of the pic... (right eye).

Nice work.

Thanks 52k...I understand what you are talking about. I have tried taking the reflection off and it just makes the picture look so flat and dull to me. For me I like how it makes the shades stand out and you can see the curve of the lens more. That is just me though...I like them in.

Chalk up another one for color. The background warmth is very nice and your cap is pretty friggen sweet. You're a pretty cool cat for an "old man" as you say ;)
