Hi all,

Just a quicky, I was recording a few action at the weekend, all went well except for the action I was recording for converting pictures to sepia.

I recorded adding a sepia filter, then a hue saturation level with the opacity set to 46%.

Every time I play this action I get a little message saying "Photo filter not available!"

Any ideas?

Cheers

I found that at least for PS5 the photo has to be set to 8 bit for the majority of the filters and other tools to work and will give an error if the photo is set for 16 bit.

James,

If you've got your magic settings for how you do the color, you might try adding these steps first:

1) Image Mode -> Convert to grayscale
2) Image Mode -> Set bit depth to 8 bit
3) Image Mode -> Convert to RGB
4) Do your colorization/etc.

This will take care of a source image that's not already in the right color space or bit depth.

Had gear, but sold it off. Starting back in with a SL1 / kit lens. Looking to expand the collection.

Hmmm I'll check this out when I get home, I'm sure it was an 8 bit photo.

Amccomis, may i ask why you convert to grayscale first?

I've had that same response in photoshop a number of times. Sometimes it is fliter not available or sometimes it is "command xxxx not available". It drives me crazy and have not been able to find the solution. Everywhere I have posted this question I get the answer "well it should work". Yeah, ok but it doesn't. I've even contacted the the author of the actions that I have downloaded and they say it should work without any other command sets. I went over my photoshop configuration with them and it was identical to theirs.

I'll be watching this one to see if there is anything here that helps me in the issues I seem to having.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I convert to grayscale because it provides a neutral unbiased point to start from when doing sepia toning. Plus, changing modes guarantees me to be in the correct mode when I go to run the filters.

Also, as for "command not available" - remember, that some commands will apply to a selection or to everything depending on if you have a selection active or not. But, some things are not possible if you have a selection active. Also, some commands are not available in certain color modes.

I may of found the solution

If you go into the action pallet menu,
go to Playback Options, you will see the following options
Accelerated
Step By Step
Pause For

Default is accelerated, I switched to step by step and my action now works!!

Let me know how you get on :D
