Canon 70-200 2.8 What filter should I use?

UV for general use right? What brand is good for a good price?

77mm Hoya multicoated Pro 1 D - get the best you can afford, or don't get one at all.

Personally I use these uV filters on all my lenses, and have never noticed any image quality problems.

Always get a multicoated filter. Hoya is a good filter as is B&W. I use a filter on all my lenses as well and I too have not noticed any IQ problems.

get either B+W or Hoya pro. multicoated for sure. work great.

You really do not NEED a UV filter unless you're going to be shooting in really hostile situations.

However, you should ALWAYS use the lens hood anytime the camera is out of the case - both indoors and outside. The hood will provide a tremendous amount of physical protection - it will keep your fingers off the lens, protect against damage from the everyday bashing around that a lens gets, etc., and even provide quite a lot of crash protection if you drop the camera/lens. It will also, of course, do its primary job of keeping stray light from impacting the lens and causing flare.

If you still feel you "need" a filter, get a high quality multicoated filter. Hoya, B&W, and a couple of others make good ones. DO NOT go for a cheap filter, though. You will be sorry with poor image quality.

ok I will spend some money for a multicoated one. I just want it for the extra protection.
