are you serious? the lens you are talking about will be a beast that will cost $4k+ (look at the nikon 200-400 F4 VR..). i like my light weight, push pull, normal price L lens as is :)

I was trying to paraphrase a quote from above, but somehow at the moment I do not have access to all of the cute tools - I cannot do smilies, or bold text, or. . . but that's another story.

My point is that there are several folks, even responding in this thread, that note several different weaknesses of the 100-400 L IS, and I am one of them. I see many great shots taken with it, and I'm sure those folks are really happy, but it doesn't float my boat. Sorry - I just cannot be convinced that I need to have one. I was very pleasantly surprised with the 35-350 L - so much so that a new Canon zoom would have to be 450mm or longer to force me to abandon the 35-350 L. My copy of that lens is sharp at all focal lengths that I have used it at, and the weakness is some focus hunting in difficult situations. But I'll stick with that lens. Sorry 100-400 fans. . .

Have Fun,

Rick

oh but that is understandable. not all lenses are right for all people. i for one would never own a 85 1.2L (well, not unless i get it as a gift) but many people would rather sell a leg than to sell that lens. i have met many people that did not like the 100-400 for various reasons and i can understand why. the zoom action is not for everybody, the IQ at 400mm is pretty good but not as good as the 400 5.6L, the focus speed is WAY slower than the prime and so on. however, there are also some great advanatages such as the IS, the 100-399 range, the fact that it is compact when closed, the better focus range and so on. each person should make his or her own decision based on what they like or need.
