are you serious? the lens you are talking about will be a beast that will cost $4k+ (look at the nikon 200-400 F4 VR..). i like my light weight, push pull, normal price L lens as is

I was trying to paraphrase a quote from above, but somehow at the moment I do not have access to all of the cute tools - I cannot do smilies, or bold text, or. . . but that's another story.
My point is that there are several folks, even responding in this thread, that note several different weaknesses of the 100-400 L IS, and I am one of them. I see many great shots taken with it, and I'm sure those folks are really happy, but it doesn't float my boat. Sorry - I just cannot be convinced that I need to have one. I was very pleasantly surprised with the 35-350 L - so much so that a new Canon zoom would have to be 450mm or longer to force me to abandon the 35-350 L. My copy of that lens is sharp at all focal lengths that I have used it at, and the weakness is some focus hunting in difficult situations. But I'll stick with that lens. Sorry 100-400 fans. . .
