stigma or cannon

with sigma releasing the new 70-200mm link (external link) lense wich is equiv to the canon 70-200 L lense which one would it be better to go with. money isnt a problem but if i went with the sigma i could be a few other bits and peices, but on the other hand if the canon has much better image quality i dont mind paying more for it. oppions and thoughts please

I like Sigma lenses a lot.

WHen I was looking for a medium range zoom, I looked at the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, and the equivilant Sigma. For me, the Canon had a slight edge in image quality. It wasn't much, but it was there.

This was about a year ago, and I don't know how the Sigma I looked at then compares to the one in your link.

The one I looked at was a very nice lens, though...

I went with the Sigma for reason I get pretty much same IQ and performance for a few hundred less.

Just FYI, Sigma has had a superb 70-200mm f/2.8 that competes well with the Canon for many many years. Nothing really "new" about it, (though the minimum focus distance is improved) so nothing really has changed in that respect.

I like the Canon (L) telephoto lenses, but as for WA, I go Sigma for less money better warranty, good image quality, etc...

Canon, if money is not an issue, get one for me as well. I wouldn't mind a 70-200 f2.8 IS either
