just got into photography, and this is the best bird shot i came up with from my trip to paris the other day. there were a bunch of these guys on the lawn at the base of the eiffel tower, waiting for waffle cone crumbs from everybody's ice cream. they would come up and eat right out my hand. pretty cool :)

i took quite a few, but they were so skittish (not afraid but constantly moving)....this was the best one. again, i'm a newbie at all this. i'm using an S3 and using the highest settings but 90% of my pictures have quite a bit of "noise" i guess is the term? pretty "staticky" looking at 100%...

anyway, that's for a different forum but without further adue....my first bird pic! :D

i tried focusing on the eyes and left the rest up to the camera on auto...eventually i'll get brave enough to mess with manual modes....

Well you got the bird sharp so full marks for that :)
it is very noisy though i use an s2is now and then but set it at iso 50 to get the best out of it -100iso is about as high as i go but 50 is better.
Rob.

ahhh....thanks, that's my problem...

mine was set at 200 the whole trip...ughh

i'm still trying to get the basics down...when i was a kid my dad told me that a higher iso helps when the lighting is bad (dark)...

so from this experience i'm gathering that an iso of about 50 is ideal for normal day shots? (variables pending of course...)...and perhaps a higher iso setting for evening/dark shots? thanks for your help :D

A little bit of noise reduction with Neat Image works wonders too...

There's a free "demo" version of Neat Image - some limitations, but still great.
