I had my camera on my shoulder, turned around as my girlfriend's mum was bending down to get something on the floor. SMACK, 70-200mm F4 L USM against her head. It hurt her and my lens is fine.

What was your initial reaction, "Oh! I'm so sorry, I hope you're okay" or "Oh **** I hope it isn't broken"?

LOL. :) In-law's head vs. 70-200 f4 lens . . . .? It could be a new reality show. ;)

I think it might do double duty for war photographers as a last ditch self-defense weapon. With the tripod mount on you could wreck havoc.

forget a tripod, a nice monopod is the greatest of weapons... i've used my tripod with just one leg down as a sword before, imagine what a nice carbon fiber monopod will do?

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

To be a real test you would have to put it through a cycle: 100 hits and check condition.
Let us know the result, please.

Cheers,

Heads heal - lenses won't - so I'm glad it's ok!
