Hello,
I've only been shooting for about a week with my 30D, and am still using the kit lens. I have a friend who has a polarizer on her Rebel and I love the look of the landscape and sky shots with the filter on.

My question is which should I get? Right now with only having the kit lens I know I need a 58mm, but as far as brands and prices I'm confused.

Any recomendations? Also, any other filters that I might look into?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

B&W and Hoya Pro Series are the best...I would stick with those two brands when buying filters. In the future you may also want to look into a graduated ND filter...also good to have when shooting landscapes. these are the only 2 filters I actually use.

What does the graduated ND filter do exactly? I haven't heard of that one

Think of the aviator sunglasses with the fancy fade on the lenses (darker on top, lighter below). Allows you to balance the exposure of the sky and the ground.

I'm just researching polarizers as well. Make sure you get a circular (as opposed to linear) polarizing filter, other wise you will have autofocus problems. I would also add Heliopan to your list of good filter manufacturers.

Awesome guys thanks for the info.

Its funny you mention the sunglasses because when I got my last pair of aviator glasses I noticed how detailed the clouds looked through them, and thats what got me interested in the idea of a polarized filter.
