It's a decent lens. It's not the sharpest knife in the block, but it's still pretty good. It's in Canon's mid range - it's not a cheapo soft nasty lens, but not the build and image quality of the L range.

It's got USM with full time manual focus which means you can tweak the focus easily, and the focus ring should be nicely torqued, as opposed to the cheap lenses, when the lens is put in MF and it just 'flops'.

Does the job...but it isn't great. Sold it to finance a Tamron 28-75

Can be an o.k. lens if you accept it for what it is or is not. Obviously will give you the advantage of IS and my copy is pretty sharp in the middle, but is Mr. Softy on the edges. Not a magic bullet, but still a servicible lens, particularly for casual shooting.
