I think the spelling of lens depends on where you're from.

OP: I just picked up that lens(e) for ~$1600 USD in the USVI.

I detect a pattern here...

Tell that to Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Leica... ;)

btw, lens is spelled BOTH ways. i hear about this debate all the time, but it's like the word 'colour' or 'color'.

depends where u live. so people can now stop correcting the spelling of LENSE, please.

:)

I thought it was the op who replied after me...just wasn't paying attention, hence the hasty edit.

Well, sort of... while the word "lense" is indeed included in many dictionaries as a variant spelling (though it is not included in my Collins English, nor my Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary), my understanding is that it's not really a commonly used spelling, save for on internet forums. ;)

Used 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM lences, if in excellent condition, are still quite expensive.
Another lenc you might wish to consider is the non IS version. You can get a new one cheaper than what many used IS versions go for.
How bad do you really need that IS on your lenc, that's a key question for you to mull over.

A wide assortment of zooms and other primes.
What's coming (major stuff only): 5D, 45 TS, 50 f/1.2L
