I would love this lens more than any other.. too expensive for me right nowo though

The 300/4 has much slower AF, but its not terrible. There is the full stop to think about. The f/4 is MUCH lighter and hand holdable. And the f/4 will give you 1:4 magnification. That said, now that I've got my 2.8 dialed in I think my f/4 may be going on the auction block. Becasue, frankly, the f/2.8 is noticably sharper, especially at f/4. It seems to me that the f/4 needs to be stopped down a tad to give sharp results. I never shoot it at f/4. The f/2.8 on the other hand rocks at f/3.2.

It's all Dante's fault... his recent actions (takin' those great pictures with the 'hubble') have pushed me over the edge. I just placed my order for one about an hour ago.


Couple of DSLRs, number of lenses and other stuff... plenty short on talent.
