Great shot, love the effect. How does one do a 4 minute exposure? ISO 100, Smallest aperture, ND filter, use a remote shutter, any tips?
Thanks for the comments, Dorman. To achieve this, I waited until an hour after sunset. At that stage I could just make out some shadows, but very little else. You can either estimate the required exposure or do a test shot first. For a test shot, turn off Noise reduction. As its only a test you don't have to worry about the noise. Its just to help assess the final exposure and saves time as NR doubles the exposure time. Set your highest ISO and try a 30 sec exposure. Aperture f4 and focus on infinity. (as these shots are better done with a wide angle lens, depth of field is greater anyway). If the test is OK then turn on NR and set your ISO to 100. Set the camera to Bulb and adjust your timing to compensate for the reduced ISO. For example if your test was done at ISO 1600 you would need to adjust your exposure by 4 stops giving an 8 minute exposure. Bear in mind that the overall time will be 16 minutes with the noise reduction switched on.
Its great fun, try it!
