Somebody has to be the first to buy one and test it. If I were an evil man, I'd recommend Rhodopsin for that task. But I'm not quite that evil.

I am interested in seeing its performance also.

I want it so bad, but I think I will have to wait until febuary or so, unless I sell the 24-70 which I am very tempted to do. I love the 2470, but I would love that 50 more I think:)

maybe we should wait a while first. might turn out to be not as spectacular as the holy trinity, and may end up more like its elder brother - the ef 50mm f/1

also, the first few batches may have problems. think the flaring issue with the ef 24-105mm f/4.

I'm just wondering why anyone wants to pay this much money for less than third of a stop difference compared to the 50 f/1.4?
I know it has that magic letter and coloured ring around the end, and it does look a bit 'sexy' I suppose  - I just hope you get much better IQ for that money...

I know some people 'collect' lenses around here (no names...but you know who you are ;)) so no doubt they will be getting one asap and will do the 'testing' for you :)

Mind you if someone gave me one... ;)

If the 50 1.4 wasn't available and I had a 5D, then I would MAYBE consider it. However, the price tag is pretty disgusting, and would have to drop about $500.00 before I would remotely even consider it.

If you have a 1.6 crop and need the red line, your best to get the 35 1.4 and pay hundreds less for it. The extra stops aren't going to help anyone much, and certainly don't warrant the hefty price tag.

But, if you "gotta have it," and your "in the money," then there is no stopping you.

My method for buying lenses is not: "Do I want it," but "Do I NEED it?" For this lens... I don't NEED it.

Unfortunately that 'method' doesn't seem to apply around here very much :lol:

Holy cow, that's expensive. I was trying to convert pounds to dollars in my head, and failed miserably.

900GBP means almost $1700. A bit more than here. Here, it's about 850GBP.
