28-135 is $420 at B&H; Tamron $350 after rebate. Tamron's constant 2.8 is a great advantage. It's very sharp with nice color. If you can get by with the shorter FL, I'd highly recommend it.

of the two, I'd recommend the Tamron for better optics. But I'd recommend the Tamron 17-50 for it's better range. Price is about $450 or a touch less.

I've sold my 28-135 (good but not great) to buy the Tamron (no IS, f2.8!)

Check the awesome pictures taken with the Tamron at PBASE:

I've owned both....I would say the Tamron hands down.

I have the Tamron, it has good optics, A bit short for the long end though. I do notice that. I change then to a 70-300 or 100-400 depending. Back to 2 lenses that way though. I have the 28-135, it performs average, better than most consumer lens I'd say. Not up to L. It does perform very well at f8-f11. Also has IS.

I own both also, the tamron is on my camera 80% of the time (love it)...but
on a nice bright sunny day on my laborday vacation in the north woods of WI
the 28-135 was the bomb. I liked the fact the I had more reach with the 135mm
As for now I'm keeping both but If I had to pick one the Tamron would be first.

The 28-135mm is a decent walk around lens. I did have some issues with the sharpness of it. I also have had problems miss-focusing in the dark (ie. focus locked, but it was really really out of focus). In day light this lens has preformed for me quite nicely. IS has been useful at times, but as I mentioned since I've had trouble low light focusing, my shots always haven't been up to par when I was at the point I needed to use IS.

I loved the Tamron's performance, but hated the very limiting 28mm range. It's not wide enough, and i found myself shifting between the 12-24mm and 28-75mm all the time. Now I'm setteling for a 17-50ish instead. Either the Tamron or the Tokina if it shows to perform well.

Cheers
